The De Winter Hurst last

The De Winter Hurst last was two years in its development by SpringLine of Northampton. We had very specific requirements for our boot last in order to produce the boot shape and fit that we are looking for back in 2014. And it took a few attempts until we got it just right. We could have used any one of hundreds of existing boot lasts which the Northamptonshire factories already had. However none ticked all the boxes on our demanding list of essentials for what we were looking for.

Why the Hurst last is rather different:

We wanted a slightly chiselled toe shape without being too long in the toe. There are too many boots which outwardly have an attractive design but leave an excessively large gap beyond the toes. This not only increases wear at the toe but also effects how the upper creases.
Combined with this the boot had to be a great fit for most feet. A good fitting boot should fit both the foot well and up the ankle.
The added benefit of using our own Hurst last was that we could appoint different Northamptonshire factories to make variations of the boot in the knowledge that they would all fit exactly the same. There is no other brand offering such a huge range of boots with exactly the same shape and fit. Customers can return in years to come and purchase any of our boots and be confident that they will fit exactly the same as their previous, much loved, pair.
