RM Williams Craftsmen boots vs De Winter Alnwick

By August 2, 2023No Comments

We are once again back with another comparison. In this addition we are comparing the much loved RM Williams Craftsman boot to our own De Winter Alnwick.
I must reiterate this comparison is in no way to undermine the quality and craftsmanship of the RM Williams brand. They are a well-established brand who have been producing top quality products since the 1930s and clearly know a thing or two about what goes into making a great boot. So let’s dive in and compare these two beautiful boots.

The RM Williams Craftsman

The RM Williams Craftsman is Chelsea boot made from one single piece of Yearling leather. RM Williams are well known for producing boots made from once single piece of leather which creates a seamless look. Yearling leather is also unique to RM Williams as it is made from a young animal which is fully weaned. This ensures a leather that is very subtle and ideal for dress and light work boots. The Craftsman is Goodyear welted like any quality boot on leather soles. The last the craftsman boot is made on creates a lovely squared toe shape. The RM Williams Craftsman retails for £399.00 at the time of this blog.RM Williams Craftsman

The De Winter Alnwick

The De Winter Alnwick is the parallel of the Craftsman. A delightfully elegant Chelsea boot the Alnwick is also Goodyear welted on leather soles. A slightly lower cut than the RM Williams Chelsea boot and made on the Hurst last, the De Winter Alnwick has a beautiful unique chiselled shape that is not offered by any other boot brands. The Alnwick is not made from a single piece of leather like the Craftsman, however, it is made of calf leather from Tannerie D’Annonay in France who offer the best quality leathers. The Alnwick has double panel elastic which makes them stronger and less likely to thread when putting on. The Alnwick also has an added heal panel that helps keep the boot strong and durable. The De Winter Alnwick retails for £313.00.

So there we have it. Both these boots are fantastic quality and stunning to look at. I would say however, that the De Winter Alnwick is more durable with its double panel elastic and heal panel. But is to their credit the single piece of leather construction does make the Craftsman a stunning boot.
